A man who was shot to death Thursday night in eastern Colorado Springs was identified Friday as 22-year-old Carlos Espinoza.

Colorado Springs police found a wounded Espinzoa in the middle of the road near Byron Drive and South Murray Boulevard after officers went to the area shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday to investigate reports of shots fired. According to police, the man was rushed to a hospital where he later died.

Investigators interviewed multiple witnesses overnight and police spokeswoman Barbara Miller said the El Paso County coroner’s office will perform an autopsy.

If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the 28th in Colorado Springs in 2013.
