Colorado Springs police said a man is in custody Thursday morning after he allegedly broke into a trailer home, then tried to flee, firing a handgun during the pursuit.

The incident began around 7:30 a.m. on the 2800 block of West Platte Avenue when police responded to a mobile home burglary, after a man in his late 20s reportedly broke into the trailer and stole a gun, police spokeswoman Barbara Miller said.

The man ran through an alley and a few streets down to the 2700 block of West Bijou Street, where he fired off a round as officers and K-9 Units were tracking him. Police blocked off the area for safety at 7:52 a.m. and the man fired shots again at 7:59, Miller said. No one was injured in the gunfire.

Moments later, the man was taken into custody and police said a victim from the burglary identified him, but they did not release his name.
