Brian Grady, commander and executive officer for the Colorado Springs Police Department, is the new executive director for security in Academy School District 20. The board of education approved his appointment at its May 2 meeting. Grady replaces Academy District 20 Chief of Security Larry Borland, who is retiring at the end of June.

Grady started his law enforcement career in 1977, as a patrol officer with the CSPD. In his current job, he has managed internal affairs, public affairs, community relations, the training academy and other areas.

He starts his duties with D-20 on June 10. He will lead the 33-member school security and safety team that oversees 24,000 students and 3,000 staff members in northern Colorado Springs and on the U.S. Air Force Academy grounds.
