A 28-year-old man was arrested Monday on suspicion of domestic violence and attempted murder in what police said was a beating involving his wife.
Mitchell Palmer, who police said is a martial arts competitor, was taken into custody after police responded to several 911 calls from residents at about 1:14 a.m. Monday at the Windmill Apartments, 4165 Lacy Lane. "Callers were reporting a female was being beaten and choked to the point she may not be breathing," according to the police blotter.
When they arrived, officers found a victim on the third floor, as well as a roommate. Officers later found Palmer nearby.
"The suspect was not compliant with the officers and was tased after he lunged at K9 Officer Keller," the website states.
Police said Palmer arrived home drunk and began arguing with his wife. The argument escalated and turned violent.
"At one point the suspect had the victim pinned on the floor and was repeatedly punching and elbowing her in the head and face. The suspect then began choking the victim telling her she was going to die. The roommate was trying to get the suspect off the victim, but was unable to stop the assault, despite hitting the suspect in the head with a beer bottle," according to the blotter.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with a concussion, several contusions and lacerations.
Palmer was taken to Memorial Hospital "for lacerations to his head, likely caused by the roommate striking him with a beer bottle." He was later taken to the El Paso County jail.
