A 12-year-old boy accused of stomping on another boy's face during a Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation peewee football game a few weeks ago was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree assault.

"The report states that the suspect, while wearing cleats, allegedly stomped on the victim's face, causing serious injury that required surgery," Barbara Miller, spokeswoman for the Colorado Springs Police Department, said in an email.

The boy's name will not be released because he's a juvenile, Miller said. She did not know if the boy was still in custody.

The injured boy's parents told KRDO last month that a player from an opposing team intentionally stomped on their son's face during a scrimmage, breaking his jaw.
