A Colorado Springs man died Wednesday morning when the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a pickup truck on U.S. 50 in Howard, west of Canon City, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Christopher Gunderson, 46, died at the scene, the state patrol said. He was wearing a helmet and eye protection.

Gunderson was westbound on the highway about 9 a.m. when he came upon a pickup that was stopped to make a left turn into a private drive, troopers said. The motorcyclist lost control and was thrown off and into the truck, troopers said.

The pickup was driven by Stephanie Jones, 33, of Coaldale. She was not injured.

The state patrol said inattentiveness and following too closely were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
