A man was arrested Tuesday morning near an east Colorado Springs neighborhood after a resident reported seeing someone breaking into cars, according to police reports.

Nick Samuel Lucero, 33, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass and misdemeanor theft, then booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

A woman called police about 3:30 a.m. when she saw a man carrying a flashlight and breaking into her car and her neighbor's car on the 4700 block of Wilde Drive, off South Murray Boulevard, police said.

Officers detained a man matching witness descriptions of the alleged thief near Airport Road and Murray Boulevard shortly after, less than a mile west of where the break-ins happened, according to police.

Police recovered two Gerber utility knives, a seat belt cutter knife and a CD from the suspect, identified as Lucero. The owner of one of the cars Lucero allegedly broke into told police the items belonged to him, according to an arrest affidavit.
