Colorado Springs police arrested a 24-year-old man Tuesday night after he apparently accidentally shot himself in the palm and the bullet exited his hand and then hit his roommate.

Patrol officers from the Stetson Hills division responded to the shooting on Rebecca Lane just before 6:30 p.m. An investigation showed the 24-year-old was handling a newly purchased, but loaded, 9mm handgun when it went off.

He and his roommate were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The bullet went into the roommate’s right arm and then his side.
