A Colorado Springs man was sentenced Monday to 58-years-to-life in prison in the 2010 rape and beating of a then-girlfriend.

Ryan Michael Cantor, 29, learned his penalty in an appearance before El Paso County District Judge Larry E. Schwartz. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault earlier this year.

The sentence comes in addition to a 36-year sentence Cantor received last year for escaping a halfway house for the attack.

Prosecutors say Cantor made an audio recording in which he burned a girlfriend with a cigarette, pistol whipped her and fired an unloaded gun at her head — acts Judge Schwartz likened to torture.
