A Colorado Springs man is in jail Monday after police said he assaulted a female and tried to set a mobile home on fire during a standoff with officers.

Michael Chiarani, 31, is being held at the El Paso County jail without bond on suspicion of first degree arson, felony menacing, assault and false imprisonment, records show.

According to a police news release, Colorado Springs Police officers were dispatched to a mobile home on 85 Sunflower Road, east of Mark Dabling Boulevard, around 10:30 a.m. Sunday for a domestic disturbance.

A female victim was able to exit the home and call police. When a friend of the woman confronted Chiarani, police said, he barricaded himself in the house, boarding windows and doors.

Chiarani allegedly tried to start a fire in the trailer's living room area, just behind the barricaded door, police said. Colorado Springs Fire Department crews entered through the front door and quickly extinguished the small fire, while friends of the female victim broke windows on the east and north sides of the mobile home, police said.

During the altercation, Chiarani fled through a bathroom window and was chased down by a police officer who tased him and took him into custody, according to the news release.

CSFD appointed an arson investigator and Special Victims detectives assisted at the scene.
