A resident was dragged several hundred yards and injured Wednesday night while trying to stop a group of thieves from stealing a vehicle, the Colorado Springs Police Department reported.

Gazette news partner KKTV reported that the male victim was smoking a cigarette at about midnight outside his home in the 6000 block of Revelstoke Drive - near Briargate Parkway and North Powers Boulevard - when the thieves entered his garage and stole the victim's Jeep Liberty.

Police said the victim jumped on the back of the vehicle as the thieves began to drive east on Revelstoke Drive in an attempt to thwart the theft.

The man fell off the car when the thieves turned onto Wolf Center Drive. The victim, whose injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, was taken to a local hospital.
