Larry Spencer Jr., 28, of Colorado Springs, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Deangelo Brown.

Brown, 22, an active duty soldier from Fort Carson, was identified as the victim of a shooting outside the Circa Nightclub in downtown Colorado Springs. He was the 22nd homicide victim in the city this year.

Police said Brown was shot during a disturbance around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 18 outside the nightclub located at 527 S. Tejon St.

Fort Carson announced the following day that Circa had been added to the list of off-limits bars and clubs for soldiers because of the deadly shooting.

Brown, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, joined the Army on Oct. 19, 2010. He served in the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and arrived at Fort Carson on April 18, 2011. Brown was a food service specialist and his home of record was Jacksonville, Fla., according to the Army.

Colorado Springs is ahead of pace of the record number of homicides for a year. In 2011, a record-breaking year with 32 homicides, there were 18 homicides at this time of the year.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000 or Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7867).
