A Colorado Springs man was accused of threatening a woman at gunpoint Wednesday when he allegedly tried to drive away with her intoxicated friend in his truck, but police said the weapon wasn't really a firearm.

Matthew Patrick Craig, 41, was arrested on suspicion of felony menacing and booked into the El Paso County jail, records show.

A 21-year-old woman told police that a male, whom she only knew as "Matt," was trying to assault one of her friends, who was passed out in the back of his truck. When she tried to get her friend out of the truck, the man allegedly pointed a handgun at her, told her to back off and said he was taking the unconscious woman home.

Police tracked Craig down to a house on the 100 block of Trout Avenue, off West Cheyenne Road, police said. A 25-year-old female was at the residence with Craig and denied having been assaulted or taken against her will, police said.

A pellet gun that matched the handgun's description was recovered from Craig's truck and he was taken into custody without incident, according to police reports.
