Joshua Palmer, 25, was arrested on suspicion of burglary after police said he broke into his own apartment and threatened officers with a handgun.

Palmer was booked into the El Paso County jail and held on a $25,000 bond, court records show.

Colorado Springs police responded to a burglary in progress at 1340 Michelle Court around 3:40 a.m. Sunday when a neighbor saw a man breaking into an apartment through a window, according to police reports.

Upon entering the apartment, officers found a man, identified as Palmer, lying on a bed, a rifle resting against a wall in the bedroom and broken glass as signs of forced entry, police said.

Palmer then allegedly pointed a handgun at the officers and a short standoff ensued, until he complied with officers' orders to exit and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Several weapons were found in the apartment, where police confirmed Palmer resided.
