A Colorado Springs man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl he met at the church they both attend, according to police.

Antonio Mendoza, 34, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child Tuesday and booked into the El Paso County jail, where he was held on a $250,000 bond, which he posted the same day, records show.

Police responded to Memorial Central Hospital on March 19 on reports of a sexual assault on a child that allegedly happened on Jan.25, police said.

Investigators learned that a man had sexual contact with a girl he met at Iglesia de Jesus Cristo Pentecostal, on North Academy Boulevard, police said.

Detectives with the Crimes Against Children Unit discovered Mendoza, might have had access to more children at the church, according to police reports.

Mendoza was interviewed by detectives Tuesday and subsequently arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child, police said.
