A pair of shoplifters rammed a police cruiser and sped off in a stolen vehicle Sunday night, leaving the cruiser damaged and Colorado Springs police searching for the culprits.

According to police, the pursuit began shortly before 7 p.m. when workers at the King Soopers grocery store at Centennial Boulevard and Fillmore Street reported the pair had stolen items and left.

A few minutes later, an officers spotted the vehicle at a 7-Eleven store at Fillmore and Wood Avenue, police said. The officer parked close to the vehicle and went to investigate. Just then, the pair left the convenience store, jumped into the stolen silver Chevrolet truck and backed into the cruiser.

The officer was unable to chase the truck as the cruiser sustained "moderate damage," police said. The truck's license plate read 978-XCZ.

Anyone with information about the incident should call police at 444-7000.
