Colorado Springs police identified the man killed Tuesday in Colorado Springs as Kenneth Chazz Pritchett Jr. and confirmed the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Pritchett, 31 , was a resident of Colorado Springs, police said.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide, making it the third in February and the fifth in Colorado Springs for the year.

According to a statement from police, no persons of interest have been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

Pritchett was found shot to death about 3 p.m. near Galley Road and Delaware Drive, just north of The Citadel mall.

According to one witness account, Pritchett was walking with two females near the Citadel Apartments at 3616 Galley Road when at least one man approached him and shot him. According to the witness, the females ran.

Police activity in the area following the shooting shut down several residential streets, including Galley Road between Academy Boulevard and Chelton Road for several hours. Nearby Twain Elementary and Mitchel High schools were placed on a precautionary lockdown, according to a tweet from Colorado Springs School District 11.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000.
