Monica Marilyn Mayes, 28, was arrested Thursday and booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the July 9 homicide of Andrew Aguilar. She is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Mayes was taken into custody at 9 a.m. at the Buffalo Lodge near Manitou Springs, Colorado Springs police spokeswoman Barbara Miller said. There was no information detailing what led police to Mayes' whereabouts.

An arrest warrant naming Mayes as the suspect in Aguilar's murder was issued by police Aug. 16, stating she was considered armed and dangerous.

Aguilar, 24, was found shot to death in an apartment at 231 University Drive, the 19th homicide of 2013 in Colorado Springs this year.

Anyone with information can call police at 444-7000 or Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP (7867).
