Meet husband-wife Elvin and Jolly Garcia, who with Carlos Rodriguez have opened Havana Grill - Authentic Cuban Cuisine at 3748 Astrozon Blvd.

Rodriguez, who had three successful eateries in Miami, oversees the kitchen at this new venture. The Miami transplants are serving Cuban dishes that are getting rave reviews from fans in search of Cuban coffee (espresso with sugar), Cuban sandwiches and big hearty Cuban breakfasts.

The excitement was evident on opening day April 3, with more than 1,500 hungry diners lining up for free food. Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Liquor license in the works. Details: 445-0776, www.facebook.com/havanagrillco .

Dirt lot dining

The Food Truck Cook Off takes place at Norris Penrose Event Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 29. For $20, you get eight sampling tickets, one drink (water or soda), a voting token, live music and entertainment. Still hungry? A buck each gets you extra sampling tickets. Seventeen food trucks are in the lineup. Visit pikespeaksbdc.org/ smallbusinessweek for tickets, to see who's cooking.
