Cindy Reiman, owner of Mateo's Salon and Day Spa, has opened The Wine Gallery, which is adjacent to her salon at 5903 Delmonico Drive.
"I've been planning this for about a year and a half," she said. "I love wine and the wine culture. I wanted to bring in wines that are not available at other stores in Colorado Springs. Some new wine experiences."
At the upscale-looking space, you'll find 450 to 500 labels, many at very reasonable prices. Reiman offers a $60 deal: She sells six bottles, from 66 wine labels, for $60. You can mix or match them.
You can select from a unique collection of ales, too.
Details: Free wine tastings from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturdays until the end of the year; 439-9463, thewinegalleryco.com.
Joseph Freyre, owner of Joseph's Fine Dining, 1606 S. 8th St., and the Manitou Pancake and Steak House, 26 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs, has struck a deal to sell the pancake place to Farley McDonough, who with her husband, David, owns the beleaguered Adam's Mountain Caf? 934 Manitou Ave., Manitou Springs.
"She made us a decent offer for the building that we couldn't resist," Freyre said. "She needed to move. With the flooding that is suppose to continue for 10 years, she needed to get out of that place. But the deal is still in the works."
Why would Freyre want to back out of a business that has proven to be a cash cow?
"My brother is ready to retire," he said. "He runs that restaurant and I run Joseph's. I couldn't do both."
The plan is to close on the deal in January and McDonough hopes to open in April, according to Freyre. "She has a lot of work to do to meet her needs," he said. "It was fine for us, for our needs. But she wants a different look."
