Colorado Springs School District 11 employees were notified by email Thursday that Superintendent Nicholas Gledich is ill and receiving medical attention, said Devra Ashby, spokeswoman.

Gledich was in Penrose Hospital Thursday, and listed in fair condition, said Penrose-St. Francis Health Services spokesman Chris Valentine.

Gledich did not attend Wednesday night's regularly scheduled board meeting.

Mary Thurman, deputy superintendent, is filling in while Gledich recovers, Ashby said.

"He'll be back in the office as soon as he's able to be," she said, adding that she could not give any details because of privacy laws.
