An observant cop saved a family and their home from a growing fire early Saturday, Colorado Springs police said. The officer was on patrol just before 4 a.m. in the 2800 block of Wyatt Street in southeastern Colorado Springs when he spotted a growing blaze near a garage.

The officer helped a family evacuate their nearby home and got firefighters to the scene.

The blaze was quickly doused and damage was limited to the outside of the garage, police said in a news release.
