Springs actor nominated for Teen Choice Award
Actor Derek Theler, a Colorado Springs native and star of the ABC Family sitcom "Baby Daddy," has been nominated for a 2013 Teen Choice Award. The Teen Choice Awards is an annual awards show that recognizes the year's biggest achievements in pop culture. Voting is done by viewers ages 13 to 19. Theler is nominated under the category of "Breakout TV Star." His show "Baby Daddy," which began airing its second season May 29, was also nominated for "Breakout TV Show."
"Its an amazing feeling to be nominated in a category like this for an award show that I used to watch on TV as a kid," said Theler, who will start filming "Baby Daddy's" third season later this month. "It's nice to be on a show that people are recognizing and that I'm proud of. I'm a long shot to win, but I'm happy to be in the running."
Theler has some stiff competition in his category, including stars from "Arrow," "Glee" and "The Carrie Diaries."
If you'd like to help out the Lewis-Palmer graduate, there's still time. Voting for the 2013 Teen Choice Awards is open until Aug. 10 at teenchoiceawards.com. You can vote once a day for each category. The show airs Aug. 11 on FOX.
