DURANGO — A southwestern Colorado ski resort will be closed until mid-March to address safety concerns found during an unannounced inspection.
The Durango Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2mqYg6y ) that Hesperus Ski Area closed after a Feb. 20 inspection by the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board and is expected to be closed for weeks as it addresses issues.
According to a report obtained this week by the Herald, Inspectors found problems with sign displays, record-keeping, general maintenance and insufficient training of employees.
Hesperus spokeswoman Kim Oyler says the resort closed voluntarily on Feb. 21 to address lift maintenance. She says safety is the top priority at the ski area.
If the ski area closes until mid-March, it likely will be nearing the end of its season. The area closed March 7 last year.
Hesperus passes are being honored at Purgatory ski area.
