DENVER — Some Colorado schools are closing early for the holiday weekend because of continued hot weather.

The Downtown Denver Expeditionary School plans to be closed Friday with high temperatures once again predicted to be in the 90s.

Schools in and around Fort Collins will also be closed because of the heat on Friday. Poudre School District, which also includes schools in La Porte, Wellington and parts of Windsor, says schools have not been able to cool off because nighttime temperatures have remained high.

Denver Public Schools said schools on its West Campus would release students at noon Friday, and schools without air conditioning also could decide to release students early. The district has dozens of buildings without air conditioning.
