Republicans pick Ken Buck as congressional nominee

Associated Press Published: June 25, 2014

DENVER (AP) — Onetime U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck seems headed for Washington — only this time as a congressman.

Buck won the Republican primary for the 4th Congressional district in eastern Colorado on Tuesday.

He's the favorite to win in November because the district is heavily Republican. The seat came open when Rep. Cory Gardner challenged Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Udall.

Buck lost a 2010 U.S. Senate race and had planned to run against Udall until Gardner stepped in. He switched races and soundly beat three other candidates in the primary.

In Colorado Springs, Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn narrowly defeated beat retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Bentley Rayburn.

GOP Rep. Scott Tipton easily defeated peach farmer Dave Cox in his 3rd District.
