Colorado police kill man during prostitution sting

Associated Press Updated: May 22, 2014 at 4:21 pm

GREELEY — A man is dead after being shot by police during a prostitution sting in Greeley.

Police say the man was a customer of an undercover officer posing as a prostitute on Wednesday. When uniformed officers moved in to arrest him, they say he pulled a gun and officers shot and killed him.

His name hasn't been released.

The Greeley Tribune (http://bit.ly/1qXNocL ) reports that the sting stemmed from the arrests three women on prostitution charges in late April. Those arrests were part of an investigation into Backpage.com, a website where sexual services are offered for cash. Police warned at the time that there could be more arrests to come.

The shooting is being investigated by the Weld County District Attorney's Office and Greeley police.
