Colorado College hockey notes: Freshmen continue to carry scoring load

The Colorado College rookies continued to do yeoman work producing points for the Tigers after five more points (four assists) for 52 (31 assists) out of the team's 136 points.

That is 38.2 percent of the total points while the 21 goals by the freshmen, led by Alex Roos with seven, is 41.2 percent of the Tigers' 51 goals (1.89 a game).

Freshman Jaccob Slavin was second among the NCHC defensemen with 13 points (nine assists) in 13 league games and third among all league freshmen entering Saturday's contest.

Three of the Tigers' top five scorers are freshmen in Slavin (16, 12 assists) and 13 each from Roos and Sam Rothstein (nine assists).

 

Krushelnyski nears Century Club

Entering the third period Saturday, senior wing Alexander Krushelnyski has 98 career points (58 assists). He made his move by collecting 17 of this season's 21 points in his last 14 appearances.

He would be the 74th Tiger to make the list and first since Bill Sweatt (109, 2010).

 

Skate with the Tigers today

Fans are invited to skate with the Tigers from 11:45 am. to 1:15 p.m. at Honnen Ice Arena on the Colorado College campus.

Skate rentals will be available.

 

Ice chips

Junior defenseman Aaron Harstad leads the NCHC in league play with 43 blocks through Friday. . CC out-shot its opponents in 13 of the last 21 games and had a 21-9 edge going into the third Saturday. .. There will be another Scott Owens radio show from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Tony's Bar in downtown Colorado Springs in preparation for the league home-and-home series against Denver next weekend.
