Chances are, Colorado College hockey fans will see and hear a bit more about their Tigers than in years past on both radio, TV and on their mobile device.
For the first time, games will be broadcast on both the AM and FM radio dials, online and via smart phone applications after the school signed a contract with KRDO 105.5 FM and 1240AM for the upcoming season.
The partnership includes cross-promotional radio and TV spots, live interviews, and a weekly segment on KRDO TV's new Sports Edition show at 10:30 p.m. Sundays this fall. The game broadcasts will feature award-winning play-by-play announcer Ken Landau.
"If you don't have a multi-platform approach in this day and age you are not maximizing your exposure," CC athletic director Ken Ralph said. "KRDO really knows sports and are really committed to this region."
"The more people hear about us, the better," senior wing Alexander Krushelnyski said.
The pregame shows will increase to 37 minutes from 22 for the National Collegiate Hockey Conference program.
"That's what is exciting for me personally and for the program," Tigers coach Scott Owens said. "They have a strong sports presence locally and they understand the history of CC hockey."
KRXP 103.9 FM had broadcast games since the start of the 2006-07 season. KRDO had the broadcasts before.
"KRDO NewsRadio 105.5 FM and 1240 AM is thrilled to have Colorado College hockey back," KRDO program director Mike Lewis said. "They have such a great brand and presence in the community and we wanted to be part of that."
KRDO radio will broadcast the monthly coach's show from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays with an extra show in February for Denver week. The dates are: Oct. 15; Nov. 5; Dec. 3; Jan. 14; Feb. 11, Feb. 18 and March 11. The site is to be determined.
