CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) — The city of Clayton will celebrate its 100th birthday with a carnival in Shaw Park.
The county seat of St. Louis County was incorporated in 1913 after residents feared expansion by adjacent University City. Clayton traces its roots to the county's 1876 split from the city of St. Louis.
The carnival will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities include live music, a car show, children's games and park tours.
Clayton's yearlong celebration also includes a black-tie gala called the Party of the Century on Nov. 29. The nonprofit Clayton Century Foundation is organizing the celebrations and is raising money to improve Shaw Park.
