  • October 23 - LUCERO Sandra L. Lucero Sandra Lucero, 67, a resident of Colorado Springs and longtime Salida resident, passed away peacefully October 20, 2014 with the view of the Colorado sun shimmering off the fall leaves. She was born November 8, 1946, in Salida, CO to Trinidad and Marcelita Herrera. Sandra was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salida for many years. She enjoyed spending time with all her immediate family as well as her large extended family, especially the annual family reunion horseshoe tournament. She also loved adventure and was able to take many trips over the past several years. The center piece of her life was her children and grandchildren whom she held so dearly. She retired from the El Paso County Department of Social Services after 25 years of service where she cherished helping others in need. Sandra was preceded in death by her husband Dave, parents Trin & Marcelita and brother Steve. Survivors include her children; Rodrick Lucero of Fort Collins, DD DeLeo (Art) of Colorado Springs, Dave (Caryn) Lucero of Colorado Springs, Scott (Denise Gonzales) Lucero of Denver; grandchildren, Rossi DeLeo, Erica Lucero, Erin Lucero, and Emma Lucero and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. Viewing will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with Rosary and Celebration of Life scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014, at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80918. A reception will follow at Pine Creek Clubhouse, 9850 Divot Trail, Colorado Springs, CO 80920 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m., October 24, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salida, Colorado. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Salida. Everyone is invited to join the family at St. Joseph's community center afterwards for a reception. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center and her many doctors and nurses as well as Pat Spencer and Nancy Giovanni for their kind and thoughtful care. Friends may make memorial contribution contributions to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center in her name.
