Husted Jolyn Husted Born 2/28/45 - Died 1/11/18 Jolyn Husted, long time Colorado Springs resident, friend and "mom" to many, was received by the Lord after a long-fought illness. Originally from Michigan, Jolyn met the love of her life, John, corresponding with him first as an unknown GI in Vietnam who was a Special Forces Medic. A romance developed through the mail and Jolyn discovered he also lived in Michigan. After meeting and dating in person, they married and remained so for 38 years, until John's death. They were stationed in several places in the U.S. and Jolyn had the opportunity to teach in various schools. They arrived in Colorado Springs in the early 1970s and were stationed at Fort Carson about seven years before John retired from the Army. Both of them felt that Colorado was "home" and settled here. Jolyn loved the Lord. She also loved music, had been an organist for her church, and was one of their first women priests. She enjoyed collecting angel figurines and pop-up books. Jolyn had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved teaching and caring for children. She enjoyed reading all kinds of books, especially mysteries. Jolyn's favorite charities were St. Joseph's Indian School and Springs Rescue Mission. Jolyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother and husband. She is survived by daughter Jennifer (Robert), son John, granddaughter Madelynn, niece Dana (David),niece Taya, nephew Chad, several more nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many more relatives throughout the United States. Jolyn will be deeply missed. Landry Dorothy G. Landry Dorothy G. Landry of Colorado Springs has passed away after a brief illness. She was 88. The third of seven Depression-era children of Etta Ruth Thomas and Elga Joseph Guillory of Natalbany LA, Dorothy Beatrice Guillory married the love of her life, Preston Landry of Hammond, LA in 1953. The young couple had met in a country church called Happywoods Church of God in rural Louisiana. Their marriage resulted in four children: Preston (Tim), Patrick, Paul (Terry), and Amy. Always ready with a smile or a laugh, Dorothy was nonetheless a fierce defender of her family and Christian principles. In school she was active in Glee club and continued using her compelling alto voice in adulthood, not only in church choirs but in community performances such as Handel's Messiah. After graduating from Ponchatoula High School in Louisiana Dorothy began to pursue fine arts training. Upon her marriage to Preston she chose to become a full-time mother to her energetic brood of children, who went on to their own successful careers in entertainment, engineering, music, and the legal system. Dorothy and Preston's patient and unselfish nurturing enabled them each to flourish in their chosen field. In response, the four children always felt it their duty to ensure their mother's laughter, the best response they could muster to the enduring sacrifices Dorothy and Preston made to bring them to maturity. The Landry family left their first home in Ft. Walton Beach FL in 1966 and set up a household in Colorado Springs where all four children completed high school and went on to college. Dorothy found time, despite her involvement with children, Church, and community to take up activities such as gardening (where she finished a master class), oil painting (which gave her immense pleasure) and even tap dancing with daughter Amy. Her artistic nature was the catalyst for the creative spark taken up by several of her offspring. Dorothy even found herself appearing in some of the early student films of her children that went on to win national awards. Like many of her siblings, Dorothy was a life-long devotee of animals, seeking to ensure their welfare even to the detriment of her own interests. A vegetarian long before it was fashionable, Dorothy raised several small dogs and ensured that the birds and squirrels near her home were never hungry even in the coldest winter. Though she knew in her heart that her Creator takes care of the "birds of the air and lilies of the field" she always felt He did so using her own hands. To the very end Dorothy always had a song on her lips and a smile in her heart. She is survived by her husband Preston, a sister, Caroll Pearson, a brother Willard Guillory, four children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday January 20, 10:00 AM at Grace Bible Church co located with Eastside Church of Christ at 5905 Flintridge Dr. Visitation prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery with reception immediately after at The Inn at Garden Plaza, 2520 International Circle.

Kuhn Patricia Ann Kuhn January 5, 1932 - January 11, 2018 Pat was born to Irma Martin Davis and Lawrence LeRoy Davis in Bond County, Illinois, on January 5th, 1932. Her tenacity for life was first exhibited on that day, when at only four pounds and not expected to live, she was placed in a shoe box, kept warm near an open oven door, fed goats milk with an eyedropper, and survived. This was quite a feat in those days. This was to be the first example of her amazing strength; she was tiny yet mighty until the end. She lost her mother at an early age to tuberculosis and, as was the custom of that time for girl children, was raised first by her grandmother and subsequently by her aunt, Mrs. Roxie Martin. Though she loved her aunts, she often expressed deep sorrow for not having known her mother. Her father "Roy" also passed away, far too soon. Her older brother, Martin Davis, was her mainstay throughout her life, especially after her husband, Bob, passed away in 2000. Pat married Robert Kuhn in Piggott, Arkansas on June 5th, 1948. They had an extremely happy marriage and had four children: Robert Kendall ("Ken"), Bradley, Martin, and ReAnn. The couple moved to Colorado Springs from Illinois in 1955, where they remained. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, her brother Mart, and her son Martin (Teresa). She is survived by her children: Ken, Bradley (Marilyn), and ReAnn Loose(David); eight grandchildren: Stacy, Courtney, Casey, Michael, Michael "G", Kate, Renee, and Riley; and eight great grandchildren: Kolton, Parker, Benjamin, Ella, Jackson, Annie, Claire, and Thomas. Two more great grandchildren are to be born this February and her greatest wish was to meet them. Sadly, she was unable to fulfill this wish. Pat loved her family and friends, and her little dog Teddy. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, and everyone loved her. She worked for Widefield School District as a teacher's assistant for many years before retiring in her late 50's to enjoy life with Bob and her family. She made many friends there and kept in touch with them. She and Bob had many backyard barbecues over the years which were always so much fun. Their annual Fourth of July barbecue was legendary. She and Bob loved to go fishing and camping and they often traveled to Cripple Creek and Laughlin, where they were quite lucky! Back in the good old days, she and Bob enjoyed watching local stock car races. She knew all the drivers' names and certainly had her favorites. She loved country western music, and taught herself to play piano so she could play along with her CDs. She especially loved the voices of Patsy Cline and Alan Jackson. She was also an accomplished seamstress, and made the best cherry pie in the world. Throughout the past few years, we enjoyed Friday Happy Hour at Pat's house, where she'd talk of her experiences, tell stories about her exploits with her lifelong best friend Ann, and maybe tell a joke or two. She was smart and kind and generous, sweet and funny. As her health declined, all were inspired and amazed by her ability to bounce back from hospitalizations, surgeries, and whatever else was thrown at her. She was 85 pounds of pure determination. She experienced much joy and endured much loss in her 86 years, but her son Martin's death in 2016 took an especially heavy toll on her heart and her health. Her faith in God sustained her until the end of her life on earth, and will sustain her in the next. She will be missed beyond words. A memorial service will be held at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80903, on Friday, January 19th at 11:30.
