During his final days, he was visited by his three sons and all seven grandchildren: a fitting tribute to a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Bill was beloved by many former students and colleagues of Colorado College. The man with the "infectious smile" was a favorite professor over four decades and was honored by CC in 2012 at the Bill Barton Endowed Professorship Celebration. William Edward Barton was born on March 5, 1932, in Memphis, Texas. He was raised during the Great Depression and World War II and was the youngest of seven children. Despite economic conditions, Bill's parents instilled religious faith, the golden rule, and the importance of hard work. Bill enlisted in the Air Force at age 18, which leads to his most important life experiences. His good fortune began when the Air Force placed him in a Legal Office where learning was as important as breathing. Colleagues encouraged him to start college classes, and the resulting academic success greatly increased his self-esteem and ambition. Equally important, Bill met his soulmate and mother of his three sons. Bill and Jean Barton were married August 8, 1952, in Raton, New Mexico and remained married for 65 years. Bill Barton graduated Cum Laude from Colorado College with a BA in 1957, received his MBA from the University of New Mexico in 1960, and his PhD from The University of Missouri in 1970. He began his teaching career at Colorado College in 1958 as an Instructor, working up to full Professor in the Economics and Business Department. Professor Emeritus Barton received the Gresham Riley Award from the Colorado College Alumni Association in 2000 in recognition of his loyal and unwavering support of his alma mater and for making a significant difference to the college community through outstanding service, commitment, and accomplishments. Dr. Barton made an equally significant impact on the lives of students at Colorado College and was recognized for his unique style, his friendship, a smile that lights up his entire face, and an encyclopedic memory of his students at the Endowed Professorship Celebration on November 15, 2012. Bill and Jean Barton retired in Paonia on the property of their dreams; with plenty of land for orchards, hay fields, farming, and animals. Bill loved horses, was an avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter. He loved his family, his Colorado farm, and the activities he pursued during a long and successful life. Bill Barton is survived by his wife Jean Barton in Paonia; sons Randy and his wife Patti; David; Mark, his wife Billie, and her daughter Hannah; his grandchildren Scott; Brad, his wife Colleen, their late son Henry, and twin daughters Harriet and Mae; Wes; Allison and her husband Kyle; Haley, and their late mother Carol; Jessica and her husband Gerad; Rachel, and their mother Cathy. A memorial service for Bill Barton is being planned in Paonia, Colorado, in January 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William "Bill" Barton's name to: Colorado College at: https://www.coloradocollege.edu/us/giving/ways-to-give.html OR call (800)-782-6306, option 1.Posted:December 10Gregory Lore Gregory 1938 - 2017 Lore Gregory passed away peacefully on December 1, 2017, and she was born on March 27, 1938 in Ulm, Germany. Stephen was born in Bessemer, Alabama on August 7, 1966 to Dr. Ronald G. and Mary Ellis Smith. He moved with his parents to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska and lived there until 1969. The family then moved to Colorado Springs. Stephen was born developmentally disabled, and it wasn't until he was 31 that the diagnosis of Angelman Syndrome was known. Angelman Syndrome is a rare chromosome deletion, which limited many of his abilities. Despite Stephen's ability limitations, it didn't stop his love of riding in the car or golf cart with Dad and watching everything that went by. He also loved going swimming or playing in the bathtub, going to a drive-in, and he loved eating and never met a food he didn't like! Stephen attended the Rocky Mountain Rehabilitation Center for 10 years. Stephen is survived by his mom, Mary Ellis, sister Kimberly, sister Kelly, brothers-in-law, Joseph and John, niece Cassandra, nephews, Kyle, Willem and Everett, cousins, aunts, uncles and many caregivers who loved him. Stephen adored all his family, friends and care givers. He was a happy, playful guy who always had a joyful attitude. He touched so many lives and taught us all to be patient, kind, loving, accepting, and caring. Stephen had a way of capturing your attention with his infectious laugh. The Celebration of Life will be held for Stephen on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Calvary United Methodist Church located at 4210 Austin Bluffs Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO. For those who wish to make a memorial gift, contributions may be made in Stephen's name to Mosaic in Colorado Springs, 4775 Centennial Blvd. #150, Colorado Springs, 80919.Posted:December 10Webb Harold Keith Webb August 21, 1933 - December 6, 2017 Harold Keith Webb, age 84, passed away on December 6, 2017. "Rodge" Rodgers September 23, 1921 - December 5, 2017 Marion R. "Rodge" Rodgers USAF Ret, Tuskegee Airman, has passed over. He peacefully transitioned in the presence of family on December 5, 2017. On December 5, 2017, we lost a much loved and admired friend and comrade. Anyone would find it difficult to have led a more serving, adventuresome, and meaningful life than did Marion Raymond "Rodge" Rodgers, LtC Retired, US Air Force. From very humble beginnings, born, September 23, 1921, in Detroit Michigan, and raised in Lauren's County, Dublin, Georgia by his mother, and in Roselle, New York, and Elizabeth, New Jersey, by his brother Herman, he quickly grew to love airplanes and flight, in their formative years. During these years he ran track meets in Manhattan and was a light weight boxer at Madison Square Garden. His career led him from Tuskegee, commanding the 99th squadron, through WWII, the Korean Conflict, commanding the 6023rd Radar Evaluation Squadron in Japan and Okinawa, and into the North American Air Defense Command. His final career assignment was on the Apollo 13 mission with NASA. Equally as complex was the rich community leadership roles he played, accompanied by his quite beautiful and complex bride of 65 years, Nora Suzanne Thomas. Together they changed futures in civil rights, community, and grass roots politics. Rodge hosted, as a volunteer, a bi-weekly television presentation on KKTV, highlighting leaders and entertainers, "Involvement", from 1965 to 1985. He ran 25 Bolder Boulder 10k races, and 7 Pikes Peak Ascensions. His 25- by 45-foot HAM radio antennae crowned his house and connected him to the world, long before the Internet. Thomas Steven Rodgers, his only son, passed in 1996; wife Suzanne in December 2013. Rodge is survived by his nieces: Janet Rhoades of Boulder, Sonja Rogers of Rhode Island, and Doris and Ray Bolden of New Jersey; and nephew, Keith Rogers, California. Also by daughter, and long-term caregiver(s) Denise Vosburgh, and only grandson, Ethan Nathaniel Vosburgh, of Newport, Rhode Island. Some surviving family-of-choice members include the Dykes of Alabama, RN Paula Nietert, Norvell Simpson, and the 1st Presbyterian Roths of Colorado Springs and the entire Hooks-Jones Tuskegee Airmen Chapter. Extended family on the Thomas side of the family include Gayle and Phillip Clark of Baltimore, and Cheryl Weber of Arizona, plus her multiple generations mentored by Rodgers for years. More information about Rodge can be found at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marion_Rodgers and http://colorado-redtails.com/ (education fund donations welcomed) and http://laurenscountyafricanamericanhistory.blogspot.com/2013/04/a-flying-man-of-tuskegee-sometimes-it.html A visitation will be held from 9:00 - 9:50 a.m. followed by funeral services officiated by Pastor Matt Holtzman at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard (at Union Blvd.), Colorado Springs, CO 80910, 719-634-1597. Parking lots are available surrounding the funeral home. USAF military honors with P-51 Mustang fly-over will take place at 11:15 a.m. A Celebration of Life luncheon reception will follow directly across the street at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 South Union Boulevard, with famous pianist, Mr. Thomas Dawson, Director of Music for The Commodores. Private entombment will take place at Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels.
