  • July 07 - JAMES Robert T. James Robert T. James passed away in Florence Montana on June 13, 2015 at the age of 92. Bob was born in North Platte Nebraska on February 21, 1923 to Harry Gaston James and Helen Marcelle Tatom. His family all worked on the railroad. He served in all three of the major US services. Though he was underage, he was in the Army National Guard during high-school, mostly because he could type. Bob served in the Navy during World War II as a float plane door gunner in the Pacific theater where he saw combat at Wake Island. He later was a JAG officer in the Air Force in Cheyenne. As an attorney, Bob was easy to spot in court, with his habitual bow tie and bright red hair. He came back from WWII to Denver CO and earned his Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate at DU. In 1946, he married Sara Catherine Lyon and they started a family. Suzanne Carol James was born in 1948, and Philip Robert James in 1950. They were later divorced In 1960, he married Edythe Anne Burton, and after working in different areas of law, he settled in Colorado Springs in general practice. He then began to practice in the area of public utilities with clients including Tri-State, Colorado Ute, Holy Cross, and Mountain View Electric before the Colorado Utilities Commission and in eminent domain actions. Bob retired from law in 1986, went back to college to get a degree in psychology, became a certified Master hypnotic therapist, and did years of hypnosis research. He wrote a book called PASSPORT TO PAST LIVES, wrote many peer-reviewed journal articles, and lectured nationally concerning hypnotic age regression. Bob had wide ranging interests, from Puccini operas, pre- Columbian art, pictographs and petroglyphs, anthropology and physics. Never a dull moment. He is survived by Suzanne James Artley (Don) of Florence, MT and Philip Robert James of Denver, CO, five grand- children, and one great-grand child. His life was enriched by special friends Terry and Carolyn Hendricks, colleague Sydney Heflin, and adventure travel companion Joan Mieritz.
  • July 07 - MERRITT JR. Joseph Albert Merritt Jr. Joseph Albert Merritt Jr., "Joe" was born on February 21, 1922 in Kinston, NC and raised in Portsmouth, VA. He was a loyal husband and dedicated father who went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on the 2nd day of July 2015. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nellie G. Merritt, 4 children: Joe, Marty, Rita and Millie who blessed him with 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-granddaughters. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Julia, Helen and multiple nieces and nephews. At nineteen years of age Joe was compelled to join the service due to the attack of Pearl Harbor. He served our country with honor and dignity for 30 years. In 1971 he retired as a 30 year Veteran from the United States Air Force. During his service he flew in thirty plus missions in World War II, served in the Korean Conflict and also served during the Vietnam Era. While serving in Colorado Springs at NORAD he fell in love with the Rocky Mountains and decided to make it his home. It was not uncommon to find him standing at the window admiring Pikes Peak. He will always be known for the dedication and service to his country, family and community. His courage, honesty, independence and perseverance was admired by his family and those who knew him. Joe enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting and of course watching those Denver Broncos. His faith in God sustained him in difficult times especially during his end of life transition. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 7th from 5-7 pm and Service will be Wednesday, July 8th at 11:00 am held at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 South US Highway 85-87, Fountain, Colorado. Following the Services burial will be at Fort Logan Veterans Cemetery in Denver. He will be greatly missed but live forever in our hearts.
