PUBLIC NOTICE The United States Air Force (USAF) has prepared an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) to assess alternatives associated with mitigating Perfluoroctane Sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluoroctanoic Acid (PFOA) contamination in the drinking water supply wells of the City of Fountain, Colorado. The mitigation will protect human health from exposure to PFOS and PFOA in groundwater in excess of United States Environmental Protection Agency lifetime health advisory action levels. The EE/CA will be available for public review for 30 days, ending on June 24, 2018. Upon timely receipt of a request for an extension, the comment period may be extended for a minimum of 15 additional days. The EE/CA considered three alternatives: 1) continue to purchase drinking water, 2) treat the water pumped from contaminated wells using a granular activated carbon system, or 3) treat contaminated well water using an ion exchange system. The recommended alternative is to treat contaminated well water using a granular activated carbon system constructed by the Air Force. The treatment will remove PFOS and PFOA from the water and thereby enable Fountain to resume production from its drinking water wells. Maria was born October 12th, 1938 in Czechoslovakia to the late Franz Lang and Marie Krisch. Maria was preceeded in death by her husband of 52 years, Steven J. Pelles, who passed away in 2014. Kennedy Thomas David Kennedy January 12, 1955 - May 18, 2018 Thomas David Kennedy, 63, of Divide, CO, was laid into Jesus's arms May 18, 2018. Thomas was born January 12, 1955 in New Castle, PA to LA "Fuzzy" and Alice (Reynolds) Kennedy. Thomas graduated from Neshannock High School in 1973 in New Castle PA; then followed a career of pipe fitting across the country and for many different companies, which landed him in Colorado. Thomas married the love of his life, Kathryn Linke on August 20, 1988 in Divide, CO; where they built their life together. He enjoyed the life he had built in Divide, with his family and friends. You could always find Tom outside whether it was hunting, fishing, hiking or anything outdoors. Thomas is survived by his wife, Kathryn Kennedy; son, Ryan Kennedy (Samantha); granddaughter, Jocelyn Kennedy; sister, Elaine Marr; brother, Dan Kennedy; sister, Joannie Garrett; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, LA "Fuzzy" Kennedy; mother, Alice Kennedy; brother, Robert Kennedy; and man's best friend, Moose. Services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00a.m. at The Little Chapel of The Hills in Divide, CO. A reception will be held immediately following the service. Thomas will be laid to rest in the Divide cemetery. Any memorial contributions will be donated to Divide Fire Protection District in Thomas's name.

Johnson Joyce Piersma Johnson December 14, 1928 - May 6, 2018 Mrs. Johnson, age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, died May 6, 2018 at Brookdale Palmer Park in Colorado Springs. She enjoyed careers as a teacher, school psychologist and family law attorney in California, where she lived for 40 years before retiring in Colorado Springs to be near her family. She holds degrees from the University of Illinois, California State University at Los Angeles and Ventura College of Law. The California State Bar twice awarded her for her pro bono work with impoverished women. She was involved for many years as a volunteer (even before retiring). She was a avid reader, writer and traveler. All her professional life, and later as a retiree, she remained active in various organizations and was always intensely interested in world affairs and politics. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Bret Anderson, three grandchildren, Melissa (a graduate of West Point), Andrew, a high school senior, and Johanna, a middle school student. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She is also survived by two of her four brothers, Robert Piersma (Maryland), Craig Piersma (Holland, MI) and a sister and brother in law, Sandra and Floyd Jousma (Holland, MI). She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Johnson who died in 1970, parents, Deward and Johanna Piersma, and her brothers, Donald Piersma and Dr. Norman Piersma. At the request of the deceased there will be no funeral or memorial.
