Tremaroli Natalie Tremaroli 1930 - 2017 Natalie Tremaroli passed away October 12, 2017 after a long illness. Born June 15, 1930 in Dolina, Poland, Natalie lived an extraordinary life for 87 years of struggle, escape, and peace. After an idyllic early childhood in eastern Poland, the Nazi war machine and Russian sympathizers swept through the area. She witnessed many atrocities of guerilla warfare that preceded the actual war in Europe, and it was then that she heard the calling to become a nurse. The family hid in the woods and emerged in the custody of the Germans. The family performed slave labor in a Nazi munitions factory on a starvation diet, and the younger siblings begged for food and clothing in the town streets. After liberation, the family was relocated to Proctor, Arkansas, on a cotton plantation where their immigration sponsor demanded the family repay the debt of relocation without offering a wage that would allow it. Natalie and her oldest sister Genevieve escaped to Chicago where they found work in the Mama Mia Spaghetti Factory, saving enough over time to again liberate the family to Chicago's south suburbs. Her role models in the teaching order of the Sisters of St. Francis strongly encouraged Natalie to quickly learn English; then upon graduation from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, Natalie began nursing school in Evanston, IL. It was there that she met the love of her life, Ben, and they married on January 24, 1954, beginning their 63-year journey together. She worked as a registered nurse for three years in Chicago, then took a 12-year sabbatical to raise her children. When her youngest entered school, she renewed her license and resumed work at St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights. Natalie and Ben sought a better life for their children and moved to Colorado Springs in 1970. She began work at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, and soon thereafter at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. She made many lifelong friends while working at Penrose until she retired in 1996. Natalie is survived by her husband Ben, her children, Cynthia, Donna, Christopher, and Michael, and 10 loving grandchildren. Natalie's strong faith in God was the core of her being. She regularly attended daily mass, and after retiring, completed the Bethel Bible Series, a two-year in-depth course. Natalie made time for daily reflection and prayer, but her faith told her to "occupy" her time on earth by engaging in daily service to humankind. Visitation will be Thursday October 19 at 5:30, and Funeral Mass Friday October 20 at 10:00 am, at St. Patrick's Church, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions can be made to St. Patrick's Church.
