Opportunity to Object Pikes Peak Ranger District Priority Permits 2018 Pikes National Forest El Paso and Teller Counties, Colorado As the Responsible Official, Oscar Martinez has prepared a draft Decision Notice/Finding of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI) selecting the proposed action of the Pikes Peak Ranger District's Priority Permits Project Environmental Assessment (EA). Under this decision a priority outfitter and guide permit would be issued to Hike for Life LLC for 300 service days annually for guided hiking, and a priority permit would be issued to Great Outdoors Adventures for guided OHV and e-bike tours and rental delivery. Modifications were made to the OHV routes and number of service days annually, and one rental delivery location was eliminated. The permitted activities are located on the Pike National Forest, Pikes Peak Ranger District. The guided hikes that Hike for Life would conduct are on the Crags, Devils Playground, Horsethief Park, Red Rocks and Lovell Gulch Trails. The OHV and e-bike tours and rental delivery would be on designated roads in North Divide, Rainbow Falls and Rampart Range areas. Copies of the EA and draft DN/FONSI are available for review on the project webite at: https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=53564 or https://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/psicc/landmanagement/projects. PUBLIC NOTICE The United States Air Force (USAF) has prepared an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) to assess alternatives associated with mitigating Perfluoroctane Sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluoroctanoic Acid (PFOA) contamination in the drinking water supply wells of the City of Fountain, Colorado. The mitigation will protect human health from exposure to PFOS and PFOA in groundwater in excess of United States Environmental Protection Agency lifetime health advisory action levels. The EE/CA will be available for public review for 30 days, ending on June 24, 2018. Upon timely receipt of a request for an extension, the comment period may be extended for a minimum of 15 additional days. The EE/CA considered three alternatives: 1) continue to purchase drinking water, 2) treat the water pumped from contaminated wells using a granular activated carbon system, or 3) treat contaminated well water using an ion exchange system. The recommended alternative is to treat contaminated well water using a granular activated carbon system constructed by the Air Force. The treatment will remove PFOS and PFOA from the water and thereby enable Fountain to resume production from its drinking water wells. The EE/CA may be found at http://afcec.publicadmin-record. us.af.mil/Search.aspx; select "Peterson AFB, CO" on the left, then click "Search"; it is one of the top document in the list at the bottom of the page. For further information or to submit written comments, please contact: Mr. Sean Houseworth, 21 CES/CEIE, 580 Goodfellow Street, Peterson AFB, CO 80914, sean.houseworth.4@us.af.mil or (719) 556-4296.
