RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Civil War battlefields in Maryland and Virginia will receive National Park Service grants for preservation efforts.

National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis announced the grants Thursday.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources will oversee a $116,000 grant for the South Mountain Battlefield, and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will handle a $93,000 grant for the Appomattox Court House battlefield.

The grants are from the Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program.
