City of Cañon City cuts nine positions

Cañon City Administrator Doug Dotson during Monday's regular City Council meeting announced nine city positions were eliminated because of a projected shortfall of income in 2014.

However of those nine employees, four were able to move to other available positions within the city, Dotson said.

"We've been going through the city's budget and as most people probably know by now, we heard from the Royal Gorge Company of Colorado that they're looking for probably a significant reduction in lease payment to the city and that amount can be as much as a million dollars over the next 12, 13 months," he said. "That's 12 percent of our operating budget for general fund and parks improvement fund."
