The elephants won't walk this summer. At least not in Colorado Springs.

Usually, when The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus comes to town, an animal walk is held near the gate to Fort Carson.

Not this year.

"We make a decision on every city based on when the barns are ready," said Erin Burgy, regional public relations manager for the circus. "Our end goal is getting the animals to the building in the timeliest manner to get them settled."

The walk is not for publicity, she said, but for functionality. The barns at the World Arena were open Tuesday morning, and the animals were brought there directly.

The show goes on Thursday through Sunday. Details: worldarena.com.
