The 2018 Pikes Peak Brewers' Bracket was as entertaining as NCAA March Madness itself. The upsets didn't seem to end and even in the final there was a No. 15 seed, Cerberus Brewing, taking on the highly popular Red Leg Brewing Co.
Note: the seeding and bracketing was decided by the age of the Colorado Springs-area breweries. Older breweries earned higher seeds.
Cerberus is a relative newcomer, opening on the West Side in 2016, while Red Leg has been brewing since 2013.
Nearly 450 people voted in the bracket, and in the finale Cerberus edged Red Leg by one vote after the ballot closed early Tuesday morning.
The road to the championship
Cerberus beat out, Bristol Brewing Company (No. 1 seed) in the semifinal matchup. Before that, Cerberus knocked out Trinity Brewing (No. 2 seed), Smiling Toad Brewery and Storybook Brewing.
On the other side of the bracket, Red Leg dispatched Iron Bird Brewing, Nano 108, Local Relic and Fossil Craft Beer Co.
The bracket let Gazette readers vote for their favorite Colorado Springs-area breweries in a friendly, March Hoops-inspired contest that ran alongside the NCAA March Madness tournament, which ended on April 2 (Villanova over Michigan).
Adults 21 and up who registered online were eligible for the grand prize, a gift card to Cheers Liquor Mart. A winner was chosen at random.
