A 2-year-old child who was inside a car when it was stolen outside a Colorado Springs 7-Eleven on Tuesday night was found safe.

Around 10:30 p.m., Colorado Springs police were looking for a 2005 Hyundai Sonata that was stolen from the convenience store at 981 S. Union Blvd., southeast of Memorial Park.

According to police radio traffic, the driver stopped at the store and left the vehicle running. The car and child were missing when the motorist came out of the store.

Police were searching the Eastlake neighborhood and were able to locate the car with the child a short time later.

“Right now we’re still working on possible suspect information,” said Police Sgt. Eric Anderson.

“I can tell you that the child and the car have been found and everyone is OK.”
