Colorado College freshman defenseman Jaccob Slavin knocked in a rebound late in the second period to stake Team USA to a four-goal lead in an eventual 5-1 win over the Czech Republic in opening Pool A action at the 2014 World Junior Championship tournament in Malmo, Sweden.

Slavin scored after a hard shot by Denver’s Quentin Shore was mishandled by Czech goalie Daniel Dolejs with 2:57 left in the second period.

Sweden downed Switzerland 5-3 in Pool B play. CC freshman defenseman Gustav Olofsson did not record a point for the Swedes but finished plus-2. Both CC players are idle until Saturday.
