The Colorado College seniors wanted another shot at their top-ranked rivals and they will get it.

The last-place Tigers will have two more opportunities to snap a 12-game losing streak when CC faces No. 1 Denver next Friday in Game 1 of a best-of-three National Collegiate Hockey Conference first-round playoff series at Magness Arena in Denver.

"I want another chance at them," Tigers assistant captain Luc Gerdes said. "They have beaten us for the last three years now.

"We weren't very happy with losing those last two games during the regular season so getting them in the playoffs is another chance for us to get some more pride back in that rivalry."

CC lost 5-2 at No. 19 St. Cloud State (16-16-1, 10-12-1 NCHC) on Friday night in St. Cloud, Minn.

The fifth-place Huskies need to win Saturday's series finale to hope to overtake fourth-place North Dakota for home playoff ice.

On Friday, Gerdes recorded a goal and assisted on Mason Bergh's score to account for the Tigers' scoring.

Earlier Friday, top-ranked Denver clinched its first National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular-season championship - aka winning the Penrose Cup - on Friday when No. 8 Western Michigan downed No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth, 7-4, in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Tigers' 0-12 skid against the Pioneers dates back to the current seniors' freshman seasons when CC (7-22-4, 3-16-4-1) last won the annual Gold Pan Rivalry trophy.

Friday's playoff opener will be broadcast live in the Pikes Peak region at 7:30 p.m. on Altitude2 with a rebroadcast set for 11:30 a.m. Saturday on Altitude TV.
