A food and clothing giveaway is set for Thursday to assist people affected by the Black Forest fire.
The Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado plans to distribute fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy products, as well as non-perishable food boxes and bottled water. Also, the Community Partnership for Child Development will give away items for children, including clothing, toys, diapers and furniture, and the Springs Rescue Mission will distribute household and hygiene products.
The day-long distribution begins at 8 a.m. and runs through 7 p.m. on Thursday in the parking lot of the Pikes Peak Community College's Rampart Range Campus, 11195 Colorado 83.
As of Monday evening, Care and Share had distributed 344,612 of the 677,836 pounds donated to help Black Forest fire recovery efforts, said Lori Kapu, the organization's chief operating officer.
The agency held a similar - though smaller - giveaway in Canon City on Tuesday to help residents affected by the Royal Gorge fire. Organizers trucked about 40,000 pounds of food to the city for that distribution, Kapu said.
