A preliminary hearing for a convicted sex offender accused of killing a woman and her two young children and sexually assaulting the woman's teenage daughter in Canon City is scheduled for June 30.

Jaacob Harding Vanwinkle, 31, was arrested in connection to the March 9 killings of Mandy Folsom, 35, Marissa Folsom, 9, and Mason Folsom, 5. The teenage victim, whose name was not released to protect her identity, was able to escape and call police from a neighbor's home, Canon City police said.

Vanwinkle faces three counts of first-degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, sexual assault, sexual assault on a child, unlawful sexual contact and kidnapping, court records show.

The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Fremont County courthouse.
