CANON CITY — A Canon City councilman has been convicted of harassment but cleared on charges of assault and disorderly conduct.

The Daily Record reports that Michael "Colby" Katchmar got the verdict Thursday (http://bit.ly/191eiWs ).

The 54-year-old was accused of being involved in an altercation with an elderly couple at a wine-tasting event in May.

Robert Martin and his wife, Margene, said Katchmar called them foul names and tried to block them from leaving. Artist Thomas Lockhart says he saw the couple attacking Katchmar and stepped in to help.

Margene Martin sustained a hip fracture and a welt under her eye.

A local artist at the event, Thomas Lockhart, pleaded guilty earlier in the week for assaulting the two at the wine tasting.

Sentencing for Katchmar will be March 12.
