Magic Layer Pie


Yield: Serves 6 to 8

1/4 cup butter 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips 1 cup chopped pecans 1 cup shredded, sweetened coconut 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk


Melt the butter over medium heat in a large skillet on a camp stove. Lower the heat to low, and add the rest of the ingredients in layers, starting with the graham cracker crumbs, then chocolate chips, pecans, and coconut (in that order). Spread out each ingredient as you add it to form fairly uniform layers. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top. Cover tightly with a lid or aluminum foil, and cook over low heat for 25 to 30 minutes, until the sweetened condensed milk has thickened. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. Cut into wedges or squares, and serve.

Make It at Home: Preheat the oven to 350?F. Melt the butter in a 9-by-13-inch baking pan. Continue with the recipe as directed. Bake for about 25 minutes, until golden brown around the edges. Cool on a rack for 15 minutes, cut into squares, and serve.
