Class 5A

Lewis-Palmer

Coach: Dan Mullins

Key athletes: Grant Osterlund, sr., GK; Grant Helwig, sr., mid.

Outlook: Mullins takes over after being an assistant last season. He'll look to senior leaders Osterlund and Helwig, plus Osterlund's twin brother, Eric, a long-stick middie, to lead the Rangers. Lewis-Palmer lost one of its captains in Austin Huey to a knee injury. Mullins said a return date for Huey is questionable.

Pine Creek

Coach: Kenny Rausch

Key athletes: Alex McAfee, sr., mid.; Alex Chang, sr., mid.; Will Derrick, sr., mid.

Outlook: This is the inaugural year for a Pine Creek varsity team. McAfee, Chang and Derrick all come over from Air Academy to finish their careers as Eagles. The team is made up of players from Pine Creek, Liberty, Rampart, Falcon and The Classical Academy.

Palmer

Coach: Sequoia Brown

Key athletes: Sam Horning, sr., mid.; Caleb Espinoza, so., GK; Noah Smith, so., mid.

Outlook: Only a sophomore, Espinoza (a second-team all-conference honoree last season) is already among the most reliable goalies in the area. Horning (second-team all-conference) and Smith (first-team all-conference) will be relied upon heavily for the Terrors.

Coronado twins Joah and Sam Smith join the Terrors in their first attempt to play lacrosse. Brown says the two have already proved to be "great teammates."

Class 4A

Air Academy

Coach: Ron Garcia

Key athletes: Mitchell Miller, sr. att.; Nick Breland, sr. def.; Keaton Dealey, sr., mid.; Austin Christenson, sr. def.; Ben Brown, sr., mid.; Spencer Dodder, sr., mid.; Jake Thornally, jr., att.

Outlook: After going 17-2 and advancing to the 4A state finals, the Kadets will undergo a year of transition. Air Academy graduated 14 seniors and lost some of its best players to Pine Creek, which became the second varsity team in District 20.

Cheyenne Mountain

Coach: Mike Paige

Key athletes: Sam Sheridan, sr., att.; Casey Rothstein, sr., mid.; Drew Lazar, sr., mid.; Logan Jepson, sr., GK; Parker Samelson, sr., def.; Mitch Reddish, jr., LSM; Mitch Paige, jr., att.

Outlook: With plenty of seniors in the lineup, coach Mike Paige is expecting good things from his squad. Last year the Indians lost just one league game and reached the second round of the state playoffs. They could be better than that this season.

St. Mary's

Coach: Isaac Anderson

Key athletes: Tyler Anderson, sr. GK; Alex Greenly, sr., mid.; Connor Gosselin, sr. def.; Drew Chesire, so. att.

Season outlook: After two consecutive winning seasons, St. Mary's will try to make the state playoffs for the first time in 4A. Tyler Anderson is an all-state goalie, and should help the Pirates stay in contention.
