Boys' basketball: Class 4A playoff capsules

Capsules for boys' basketball area teams in the Class 4A quarterfinals.

(All games Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.)

 

D'Evelyn (20-5) vs. Sand Creek (20-5), noon

Quick hits: One of these teams will reach the semifinals after years of falling just short. Sand Creek previously reached the quarterfinals in 2011 and last year, suffering season-ending losses to Lewis-Palmer and Valor Christian, respectively. The Jaguars, who won the 3A state title in 2004, fell to Broomfield last year and were eliminated by Sierra in the 2011 quarterfinals. Sand Creek is led by seniors Dylan Clark (19.9 points) and Langston Bell (12.2).

 

Thompson Valley (24-1) vs. Cheyenne Mountain (20-5), 4 p.m.

Quick hits: Before last season, Cheyenne Mountain had never advanced out of the round of 16. On Saturday, the Indians make their second straight quarterfinals appearance. Last year, Lewis-Palmer ended the Indians' run. On Saturday, they get a rematch with the Eagles, who recorded a 56-47 road win on Jan. 25. Since then, Cheyenne Mountain is 11-1, its only loss to Valor Christian, also in the field of 4A quarterfinalists.
